This year’s 2022 Big Day Out, AGM and Big Day Out are nearly here! We are really excited that this year’s event will be taking place in person for the first time in three years at the Melbourne Town Hall on Monday 28 November as well as online for those who aren’t able to attend in person.
This event is free. No bookings required.
Agenda
- 10:30 am – Keynote Speaker, Nimo Hersi
- 11:00 am – Big Day Out activities commence at Melbourne Town Hall
- 12:00 pm – lunch commences. BDO activities continue
- 12:45-1:30 pm – live crosses to other venues (in venue and via Zoom)
Activities
Be inspired by Keynote Speaker, Nimo Hersi, a prominent Disability Inclusion advocate and consultant, who will be sharing her personal journey to advocacy and her thoughts on how to promote leadership for people with lived experience. who will share her Personal journey to Advocacy - how to promote leadership for people with lived experience.
Enjoy live performances from Eliza Hull - who was recently appointed ambassador of International Day of People with Disability. Eliza Hull will perform live with guitarist Connor Black-Harry.
There will also be music and dances by Yooralla clients including a special sneak peek at Macey Rouge – the modern Moulin Rouge spectacular!

Getting there
By train:
Melbourne Town Hall is approximately 5 mins walk from Flinders Street Station, along Swanston Street. For train timetable information and trip planning visit PTV.
By tram:
The closest stop to Melbourne Town Hall is Stop #6: Melbourne Town Hall/Collins St. This stop is serviced by routes 11, 12, 48, and 109.
Stop #11: City Square/Swanston St is also nearby, serviced by tram routes 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67, and 72.
By car:
No parking is available at the Melbourne Town Hall itself, however the closest accessible car park is at Federation Square. There is a drop-off point at Melbourne Town Hall’s Collins Street entrance, but this is not a dedicated drop-off zone for taxis and rideshare vehicles.
Accessibility information
The event is fully accessible for people with disability.
There is ramp access to gain entry to the building and elevators to access other floors.
Two accessible toilets are available on site, fitted with hoists and slings. There will be Disability Support Workers at the event to support our clients with any additional needs.
AusLan interpreters will be on stage during speech and presentations.

Entry and Exits
expand_moreSignage will be available on the premises to promote – physical distancing, coughing and sneezing etiquette.
Ventilation
expand_moreThe entrance//exit doors will remain open at all times to increase airflow into the venue.
Air purifiers will be placed in the Main Hall, Condell Room, Hoddle Room, foyers, bathrooms and activities areas to allow for increased ventilation.
Provision of Masks
expand_moreYooralla is committed to making the Big Day Out a COVIDSafe event. We encourage attendees to use a mask if possible.
Yooralla will provide attendees a choice of:
- Colourful Face coverings
- Surgical masks
- N95 masks
Volunteers will be available to assist attendees to choose and apply a mask if they wish.
Provision of RATs
expand_moreAttendees have been encouraged to take a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) prior to attending the event. RATs will also be available at the venue.
All attendees are welcome to use the Hoddle Room for self-testing.
If you wish to complete a RAT, please ask a volunteer for assistance.
Safe area to isolate a suspected or confirmed positive case
expand_moreAny person who develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19 will be assisted by a Yooralla volunteer to exit the venue and return home to isolate safely.
If it is raining, a volunteer will usher the person to the Hoddle Room while they are waiting for their transport home.
If you start to feel unwell during the event, please notify one of the volunteers so they can assist you.
The Volunteers can support you to get home safely.
Disinfecting commonly used surfaces and items
expand_moreAll equipment available in the activities area will be sanitised after every use.
Yooralla will use TGA approved disinfectant products.
Volunteers will be available to sanitise all equipment after each use.
Hand Sanitiser

- games/activity area.
- Where food and beverage is served
- Outside bathrooms
- At entrance and exits
- In the Main Hall
- In the Condell Room
Volunteers will have hand sanitiser available if you require.

Physical distancing
expand_moreWhere possible, please maintain physical distancing.
The Main Hall will have seating area which will be suitably distanced to allow for physical distancing and wheelchair access.
