Individualised Living Options (ILO) at Yooralla
A flexible way to live an independent life! There are lots of choices with ILO. You can share your home with friends or housemates, or live on your own with the support you need.
Individualised Living Options (ILO) is an NDIS funded support package which helps you live the way that best suits you. ILO is flexible, so you can choose the home you live in, who you live with and what supports you need.
ILO funding does not cover the costs of the physical house, but it does support you to live the way you would like to.
We’ll work closely with you to find out what you need to start your ILO journey.
Individualised Living Options at Yooralla may offer you:
- greater flexibility, choice and control,
- a good alternative to Supported Independent Living (SIL) and group home living, and
- a highly individualised customised support package for participants that will help you build a network of supports.
The Individualised Living Options (ILO) process
Individualised Living Options (ILO) starts with 2 stages:
Stage one – Exploration and Design
This is the first step. We’ll work with you and your support network to understand where you want to live, who you want to live with, what supports you will need in your new home and who you would like to provide that support.
Together, we can then design a plan for the type of living arrangements you would like and the supports you need. This could include things that the NDIS doesn’t fund, like the support you get from friends and family. Your living arrangements might look like:
The Exploration and Design process can take between 3 – 12 months. At the end of the ILO stage, we will work together to submit an ILO Service Proposal to the NDIA.
The exploration and design stage can be specifically funded by NDIA in your plan through core supports. Alternatively, you are able to use capacity building support coordination funding to explore your home and living preferences, which may include ILO.
Stage two – Supports (and Monitoring)
Once the ILO service proposal has been approved by the NDIA, we will carry out your plan and help you settle into your home.
We will also regularly check-in with you to make sure things are working for you.
We can also work with you to make changes if needed.

Who can I live with?
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach and you have the choice of who you would like to live with. This might look like:
Living with housemates
- You can live with one or more housemates who can provide you with support or companionship. This could also be friends, family or an intimate partner.
- Your NDIS plan funds may be used to reduce your housemates’ rental costs.
Living with a host
- You may choose to live in someone else’s home, such as family or another non-related person. This is called a host.
- Hosts can provide an agreed level of support, companionship and a home-like environment.
- Your NDIS plan funds can be used to pay your host for an agreed level of in-home supports
Living alone
- You might like to live on your own, with support from family, friends or neighbours.
- A package of flexible drop-in supports could be funded.

expand_moreIndividualised Living Options (ILO) might be right for you if:
- you’re 18 or over
- you have a network of family or friends that can be part of your ILO support network
- you need help at home for at least 6 hours each day
- you’re willing to invest time and effort towards creating your future home
- you’re ready to explore your home and living needs, what you’d like, and are ready to look into potential options
Often, people who know you well can be an important part of helping to explore options and to make decisions. You can involve them in helping to design and manage your ILO, if you want to.
Remember, ILO supports will need to meet the reasonable and necessary criteria. If an ILO isn’t right for you, there are other home and living supports that might help.
