Behaviour Support
Supporting improvements in the quality of life for people impacted by behaviours of concern using a positive behaviour support approach.
About our Behaviour Support services
Yooralla provides NDIS registered Specialist Behaviour Supports (SBS) for children, young people and adults with disability who are impacted by behaviours of concern (behaviours which can put you and other people at risk of harm).
We use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches to enhance and improve your quality of life, including working towards reducing behaviours of concern.
What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) aims to support kids, teenagers and adults with disability to lead a good life. At Yooralla, we focus on the person, making sure they are at the centre of everything we do. This means we work closely with people with disability, their families and support network, to understand their strengths, areas where they excel and what makes them feel safe.
We use the latest research, best practices and a trauma-informed way of working, recognising and respecting the varying levels of trauma experienced by people with disability.
We collaborate with people with disability, and their support network, to further understand the reasons behind the behaviour of concern. We may speak with the person, their family, carers, school and health professionals to understand what they are trying to communicate and what needs are being met. By understanding what they may be trying to communicate and what their needs are, we can develop effective strategies.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) for children, young people and adults at Yooralla
Our supports can be provided where and when suits you best, including your home, kindergarten, childcare, school, workplace or in the community, ensuring a holistic approach to support through your life.
We will work with you and your support network to:
- Understand why the behaviour is happening.
- Create strategies that build on your strengths, supporting you to build positive relationships, address any health issues and make your environment better. Strategies aim to build communication, coping skills and independence.
- Develop behaviour support plans to improve your quality of life and promote alternative ways of having your needs met.
- Provide training to support the implementation of strategies and plans.
Does Yooralla provide Behaviour Support training?
Yes, we can work with people with disability and their support network to provide training to implement the strategies we recommend. We provide these strategies in a Behaviour Support plan so everyone knows how to support the person engaging in behaviours of concern.
NDIS funding categories
Our Behaviour Support services can be funded under the following categories in your NDIS plan:
- Capacity Building: Improved Relationships
- Behaviour Management Support Plan which includes training.
Please note: we bill in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
