Yooralla’s On the Move powered mobility program

A unique program to enable very young children to access on-time mobility though powered devices.

Yooralla’s On the Move program is a unique program to support young children (under the age of 5 years) access powered mobility devices to enable them to independently explore their environments and participate in their community We have a large fleet of powered mobility equipment available for you to hire and trial, including Wizzybugs.

At Yooralla, we have physiotherapists and occupational therapists who specialise in powered mobility for young children. Our experienced team of therapists can provide assessment and tailored support for early powered mobility.

What are powered mobility devices?

Powered mobility devices, like Wizzybugs, are a type of powered wheelchair which look a bit like a car and can be used by young children to learn to move independently. Wizzybugs allow children to move around with their friends and family, create social connection and develop their independence.

In addition to Wizzybugs, we also have Mini Explorers available to hire, which facilitate self-initiated movement and early exploration for children aged 12-36 months.

We have one of the biggest fleets of Wizzybugs in the country and can support children and families anywhere in Australia!

Benefits of Wizzybugs

  • Wizzybugs are safe. Children using powered mobility should always be closely supervised to ensure safety.
  • They are often quick to learn. Any skill acquisition takes time and is variable, depending on the individual and environmental circumstances. Research has found that children take approximately 12 weeks to become familiar with and use powered mobility
  • Wizzybugs fit in your car. That's right - Wizzybugs can be disassembled into parts that fit into the boot of your car. We've even tested them in a Toyota Corolla!
  • They are flexible. Wizzybugs have left or right-handed controllers, or can be set up with alternative switches for easy access. There are postural supports within the seating system that also accommodate growth.
